Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I just received and installed the Meter Program and when I tried to enter data it gave me an error message that said that the data was not available.
A. The reason that you got this error is that the database files are contained in a separate file so that they can be installed on a server and the program files on a workstation. This allows for multiple workstations to access the database. To cure this problem click on the "Link Files" icon on the tool bar at the top left part of the screen. This will bring up a browser window where you can navigate to where the database is located. In your case the default would be C:\Program Files\Specialized Systems Software\Meters\meters_be.mdb. Select all files and you will be able to use the program normally.
Q. I noticed that Windows 2000 or higher is required to run the new versions of your software. Why can't I run them with Windows 95 or 98?
A. We are now using Access 2002 and 2003 for the design of our programs so that we can take advantage of the latest improvements in the database software. This allows us to work on adding new features and increase the speed that our programs run. If you are running Windows 95 or 98 we can provide versions of our software that will run under these systems.
Q. You have come out with several new programs recently (Manholes and Street Lights) that are not water programs. Are you getting away from water related software? Where do you get your ideas for new programs?
A. We are committed to providing the best in water software for the Water Operator. These programs were requested by a customer and we felt that they were worth looking into and also a part of Public Works. As far as where do we get our ideas for new software - FROM YOU!!! - we listen to our customers and try to provide for their needs. We always welcome your ideas!
